Hackendahl does not catch your eye, if you are walking down the Friedrichstraße. However, if you know what you are looking for, you will find it immediately.
The bar is called after the “last” horse cab-man “the iron Gustav” Hackendahl, who drove from Berlin to Paris in two months. Similarly the bar is closer to a nice pub.
The room is impressive is as Hackendahl is suited in an altbau with unbelievable high arched ceilings and the original apothecary shelves with various decoration on them were kept in the rooms. The music is quiet and pop and the space is well illuminated.
Two rarest things, which you can order are Störtebeker and Rollberg beer from tap as well as schnapps made from pears and infused with ginger and cinnamon. The menu includes several beers, some classic cocktails and all of alcohol available, which makes it hard to read. However a rich choice on Gins and large choice of whiskeys will make any Gin(Tonic) or spirit lover happy. The cocktails are classic (Negroni, Singapore Sling, Old Fashioned, Whiskey Sour, Manhattan, Margarita, Dark&Stormy, Moscow Mule, and several more) and of good quality. It is possible to order food in addition to you drinks.
All-in-all it is a positive experience, especially if you want to catch up with a group of friends on a Sunday, as Hackendahl is one of few bar, which are open Sundays.
